LAPTOP REPAIR GLOSSARY / MACBOOK

Logic Board

Apple’s term for the motherboard. On Apple Silicon MacBooks, the logic board contains the M-series chip, RAM, and storage all soldered together — making it far more expensive to replace than on other laptops.

When an Apple technician says “logic board replacement” they typically mean swapping the entire board — which can cost $800–$1,500. Component-level microsoldering repair targets only the failed part, often costing $150–$300.

Logic Board vs Motherboard

They are the same thing. Apple uses “logic board” as their branded term. Every other laptop manufacturer calls it a motherboard. The function is identical — it’s the main circuit board that connects all components.
