Genshin Impact looks like a demanding AAA open world, but remember: this game also runs on phones. The PC version is far more forgiving than its visuals suggest — mid-range GPUs from several generations back hit a locked 60 FPS. Where budget PCs actually fall apart with Genshin is storage and RAM: teleport stutter, region-loading hitches, and long load screens are streaming problems, not GPU problems.
Requirements vs the smooth experience
| Tier | CPU | GPU | RAM | Storage | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Official minimum | i5 quad-core | GT 1030 | 8 GB | HDD ok (it’s not) | 30 FPS low, stuttery |
| Recommended | i7 quad-core+ | GTX 1060 6GB | 16 GB | SSD | 60 FPS, 1080p high |
| Our smooth spec | i5-10400+ / Ryzen 5 | GTX 1660 / RTX 3050+ | 16 GB | SSD (game is 100+ GB) | Locked 60, no teleport stutter |
| 1440p / future-proof | Modern 6-core | RTX 3060 / RX 6600 XT | 16–32 GB | NVMe SSD | Locked 60 at 1440p max |
The official 60 FPS cap changes the buying logic completely: there is no reward for a monster GPU. The goal is a locked 60 with zero dips — achieved with mid-tier used hardware — and the same spec comfortably runs Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero too.
Why Genshin stutters (and how to fix it)
- Teleport/loading stutter → the game is streaming 100+ GB of assets. Moving it from HDD to SSD is the single biggest improvement — bigger than any GPU upgrade. We do HDD-to-SSD cloning from $40.
- Random hitching with 8 GB RAM → Genshin plus launcher plus browser exceeds 8 GB. Upgrade to 16 GB.
- FPS drops in Sumeru/Fontaine/dense areas → these regions are heavier than Mondstadt. If your GPU was borderline, this is where it shows; a used GTX 1660-class card fixes it cheaply.
- Laptop runs hot then slows → classic thermal throttling; see why laptops overheat.
Used build recommendations for Singapore
- Budget ($550–$650): recent i5, 16 GB, GTX 1060 6GB/1650 Super, SSD — the recommended spec, properly met.
- Sweet spot ($700–$850): i5/Ryzen 5 + used RTX 3060 — locked 60 at 1080p max or 1440p high, and strong enough for Elden Ring and most AAA games at 60 FPS.

FAQ
Can Genshin run above 60 FPS on PC? Officially no — the cap is 60. Plan hardware around a locked 60, not a high number.
Will the same PC run Honkai: Star Rail and ZZZ? Yes. Star Rail is lighter (turn-based), ZZZ is similar. One mid-tier build covers all three HoYoverse titles.
Do I need an NVMe SSD or is SATA enough? SATA SSD is already a night-and-day upgrade over HDD. NVMe shaves a bit more off load times but isn’t required.
