Elden Ring has a secret that makes it one of the cheapest AAA games to run properly: the engine hard-caps frame rate at 60 FPS. There is literally no benefit to a flagship GPU — an RTX 4080 and a used RTX 3060 both show you the same 60 frames at 1080p. The whole buying question collapses into one goal: a locked, stable 60 with no stutter. And most of what causes Elden Ring stutter isn’t the graphics card at all.

About that stutter
Elden Ring’s micro-stutter is legendary, and buyers keep trying to fix it with bigger GPUs. It doesn’t work, because the causes are elsewhere:
- Shader compilation — brief hitches when new effects first appear. Diminishes as you play; nothing to buy fixes it entirely.
