Minecraft & Roblox PC Requirements: The Honest Guide for Singapore Parents
If you’re a parent shopping for a first PC, the games list is almost always the same: Roblox, Minecraft, and eventually Fortnite. Good news — these are among the least demanding popular games, and the right machine costs far less than a salesperson at a mall will tell you. Here’s the honest version.
What each game actually needs
Roblox is built to run on phones. Any working desktop from the last 8 years with an SSD runs it. There is no such thing as a "Roblox gaming PC" worth paying extra for.
Minecraft is sneakier. It comes in two versions:
- Bedrock Edition — lighter, runs on almost anything, what younger kids usually play.
- Java Edition — the classic modding version older kids graduate to. It’s single-core CPU-bound: a fast modern processor matters far more than the graphics card. An old office desktop with a quick i5 often outruns a weak "gaming" laptop.
The hardware conversation only changes when kids discover shaders (pretty lighting mods — needs a real GPU like a GTX 1650/1660) and modpacks (which routinely want 6–8 GB of RAM for Minecraft alone — so 16 GB total).

Before you buy anything: the lag might be fixable

- Old hard drive — Roblox game-hopping and Minecraft world loads crawl on an HDD. An SSD clone from $40 transforms the machine.
