Counter-Strike 2 replaced CS:GO in 2023 on Valve’s Source 2 engine, bringing volumetric smokes, new lighting, and sub-tick servers — and roughly doubling the hardware needed for the same frame rates. Why is CS2 so much heavier than CS:GO?
Source 2 uses physically-based lighting, volumetric smokes, and higher-detail maps. The old “CS runs on a potato” rule died with CS:GO — CS2 behaves like a modern mid-weight game.

Realistically: a 6-core CPU from the last few generations (i5-12400 / Ryzen 5 5600 or newer), 16 GB dual-channel RAM, and an RTX 3060 or RX 6600-class GPU. That combination holds 144+ FPS at 1080p even in smokes.
