Liquid enters a laptop through the keyboard and spreads across the motherboard. Water alone is less damaging than coffee, juice, or soda — sugary and acidic liquids accelerate corrosion. The single most important action after a spill: power off immediately and do not turn the laptop back on. Powering on while wet causes short circuits.
