Signs You Need an SSD Upgrade
A spinning HDD takes minutes to load Windows. An SSD reduces boot time to under 20 seconds — the single most noticeable improvement.
Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc → Performance → Disk. If it shows 100% constantly, your HDD is the bottleneck strangling your laptop’s speed.
If clicking Word, Chrome, or Excel results in a spinning wheel for 10–30 seconds, your storage drive is the culprit — not your processor.
Mechanical HDDs make noise. Clicking or grinding sounds mean the drive is failing. Replace immediately — data loss is imminent.
Most laptops sold before 2018 shipped with HDDs. A $100 SSD upgrade can make a 7-year-old laptop feel brand new.
SSD vs HDD — What’s the Difference?
SSD (Solid State Drive)
- Boot time: Under 20 seconds
- App launch: Near-instant
- Noise: Completely silent
- Shock resistance: High — no moving parts
- Battery impact: Uses less power
- Lifespan: 5–10+ years typical
HDD (Hard Disk Drive)
- Boot time: 3–5 minutes
- App launch: 10–30 seconds
- Noise: Audible spinning & clicks
- Shock resistance: Low — moving parts
- Battery impact: Drains faster
- Lifespan: 3–5 years typical

Frequently Asked Questions
How much faster will my laptop be after an SSD upgrade?
Dramatically faster. Boot times typically drop from 3–5 minutes to under 20 seconds. App launch times go from 10–30 seconds to near-instant. If your laptop currently has an HDD, an SSD upgrade is the most impactful thing you can do short of buying a new laptop.
Will I lose my data during the upgrade?
No — we clone your existing drive to the new SSD. Your Windows installation, all your files, software, and settings transfer exactly as they are. We strongly recommend backing up important files before any hardware work, but data loss during a standard clone is extremely rare.
What’s the difference between SATA SSD and NVMe SSD?
SATA SSDs are still 5–10× faster than HDDs and fit any laptop with a 2.5” drive bay. NVMe SSDs use the M.2 slot and are up to 7× faster than SATA — ideal for laptops made after 2017 that support it. We check your laptop and always install the fastest compatible option. See our storage glossary for more detail.
How long does an SSD upgrade take?
Most upgrades are completed in 1–2 hours including data migration. Walk in, get a free diagnosis, approve the quote, and collect same day.
Should I upgrade SSD or RAM first?
If you have an HDD, SSD first — always. The impact is far more dramatic. If you already have an SSD but the laptop still feels slow during heavy multitasking, a RAM upgrade is the next step.
Can I keep my old HDD as extra storage after the upgrade?
Yes — if your laptop has a second drive bay or you purchase an external USB enclosure, your old HDD can become an external storage drive. We can advise on this during your visit.
How much does an SSD upgrade cost in Singapore?
From $80 for 256GB, $100 for 512GB, $130 for 1TB, and $200 for 2TB. All prices include data migration. Call 9750 4333 for an exact quote for your model.
