Cyberpunk 2077 PC Requirements: The GPU Ladder from 1080p to Path Tracing

⚡ Optimum spec (our verdict): 6-core i5/Ryzen 5 + used RTX 3060 12GB, 16 GB RAM, SSD — 1080p high at 60–75 FPS with DLSS Quality, with medium ray tracing within reach. Complete tested used build ≈ $750–$950 in Singapore.

Futuristic neon cyberpunk city at night - Cyberpunk 2077 PC requirements Singapore

Cyberpunk 2077 is the game reviewers use to torture graphics cards — but after years of patches and Phantom Liberty, it’s also superbly optimised. It just scales, enormously. The same game runs on a GTX 1060 and brings an RTX 4080 to its knees in path tracing mode. Deciding what to buy is really deciding where on the ladder you want to stand.

The GPU ladder

Experience GPU Settings Real-world FPS (1080p)
It runs GTX 1060 6GB / RX 580 Low-medium, FSR 40–55
Optimum: proper 60 FPS RTX 2060 Super / RTX 3060 High, no RT, DLSS Quality 60–75
Ray tracing RTX 3070 / 4060 Ti High + RT Medium, DLSS 60+
RT Ultra RTX 4070 / 4070 Super Ultra + RT, DLSS + FG 90+
Path tracing RTX 4070 Ti / 4080+ Overdrive, DLSS + FG 60+

Alongside the GPU: a 6-core CPU minimum (Night City’s crowds hammer the processor), 16 GB RAM, and an SSD, which is officially required — the game does not support hard drives.

The three technologies that decide your FPS

  • Ray tracing (RT) simulates realistic light bounces, reflections and shadows. Gorgeous, and expensive — turning RT on can halve your frame rate. This is why RTX cards with dedicated RT hardware pull ahead of similarly-priced AMD cards in this game.
  • DLSS / FSR upscaling renders the game at a lower internal resolution and intelligently upscales it. DLSS Quality at 1080p looks near-native and typically buys back 30–50% FPS. It’s the lever that makes each rung of the ladder affordable — a used RTX 3060 with DLSS matches what a much pricier card does without it.
  • Frame generation (FG) — RTX 40-series only — inserts AI frames between real ones. Great when your base FPS is already 50+; it’s how mid-range 40-series cards reach smooth RT Ultra.

Rule of thumb for buying: DLSS support matters more than raw specs in this game. That tilts value towards used NVIDIA RTX cards over both GTX cards and older Radeons.

The value picks for Singapore’s used market

  • Best value overall — the optimum: used RTX 3060 (12 GB). 1080p high at 60+ FPS with DLSS, dabble in medium ray tracing, and the 12 GB VRAM ages well. See it compared in the RTX 3060 vs 4060 vs 5060 guide.
  • The ray tracing step: used RTX 3070 / 4060 Ti. This is where Cyberpunk’s lighting transforms. Worth it if this game is a priority.
  • Path tracing is a luxury. Gorgeous, but RTX 4070 Ti-class pricing for one rendering mode. Standard ray tracing delivers most of the wow for far less — the RTX 3000 vs 4000 vs Radeon comparison breaks down the price gaps at every tier.
  • Under $400? The cheap graphics cards for students guide covers what’s realistic — spoiler: 1080p60 without RT is achievable.

Used GPU testing and inspection Singapore

A complete used build for the "proper 60 FPS" tier lands around $750–$950 in Singapore; the used gaming PC buying guide covers what to check before paying, and every card in our used graphics card stock is stress-tested before sale.

Notes from the workbench

  • Crashes or hitching mid-drive: almost always HDD installs or 8 GB RAM. The SSD requirement is real — we do HDD-to-SSD cloning from $40.
  • Low GPU usage in crowds: CPU bottleneck — common on older quad-cores. No graphics setting fixes it; it’s an upgrade conversation.
  • FPS degrades over a long session: GPU thermal throttling. Dust builds up on the card’s heatsink just like the CPU’s — a full desktop clean from $50 restores boost clocks.
  • AMD cards: strong raster value (RX 6700 XT-class runs 1080p ultra happily) but fall behind once ray tracing is on. Fine if RT doesn’t matter to you.

FAQ

Can Cyberpunk run on a GTX 1650 laptop? At 1080p low with FSR, around 30–40 FPS. Playable for the story, far from the intended visuals.

Is 8 GB VRAM enough? At 1080p, yes. At 1440p with RT and high textures it gets tight — another point for the 12 GB RTX 3060 on a budget.

DLSS Quality or Balanced? At 1080p, stay on Quality — lower modes get visibly soft. At 1440p, Balanced is a fair trade.

How does it compare to Black Myth: Wukong? Wukong is even heavier — see the Wukong PC requirements. If your card handles Wukong, Cyberpunk is comfortable.
