The pattern is obvious: the GPU column barely moves while the CPU column climbs steadily. A GTX 1050 Ti — a card you can find used for under $100 — already meets Riot’s 144 FPS spec. What separates a stuttery 144 from a locked 240 is single-core CPU performance and dual-channel RAM.

Frame rate vs refresh rate: why 144 FPS matters at all

A quick primer, because this is where most Valorant budgets go wrong. Your frame rate (FPS) is how many images your PC produces per second; your monitor’s refresh rate (Hz) is how many it can display. A 60 Hz monitor shows you 60 frames no matter how many your PC renders — so 300 FPS on a 60 Hz screen is mostly wasted.
